New cloud-infrastructure package

VMware Thailand's country manager Chawapol Jariyawiroj said the cloud-infrastructure suite including vCloud Director 1.5, vShield 5, vCentre Site Recovery Manager 5 and vSphere 5.

He said vCloud Director 1.5 enabled a self-service model for provisioning infrastructure services across internal and external sources. It enables information technology to dramatically reduce the time required to provision new servers. Together with solutions and services offered by VMware's broad partner ecosystem, customers will be able to build and leverage secure hybrid-cloud resources with confidence.

VMware's vShield 5 provides an adaptive software-based security model designed for virtual and cloud environments.

The vCentre Site Recovery Manager 5 is a proven disaster-recovery solution with built-in storage-replication capabilities as well as new failback functionality and planned-migration capabilities. It also migrates a broad range of storage-based replication products from VMware's partners, enabling end-to-end disaster-recovery solutions for virtualised environments.

Chawapol said vSphere 5 delivered application performance and availability for all business-critical applications, while automating the management of an increasingly broad pool of datacentre resources.

"VMware's vSphere 5 and the comprehensive suite of cloud-infrastructure technologies are built to help our customers transform information technology to drive the efficiency of existing investments and improve operational agility," said VMware's chief executive Paul Maritz.

Chawapol said the cloud-infrastructure suite gave companies the ability to run business-critical applications, respond faster to business opportunities, and feel secure with sensitive data protection against network intrusions and malware.

"I think that virtualisation is very important for businesses. It enables efficient infrastructure management that reduces costs and complexity and drives the agility of information technology to increase an organisation's value. It will also drive business transformation," he said.

VMware delivers its cloud-infrastructure suite via global and local business partners. The suite targets three market sectors: large enterprises, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and "white space", or new customers without experience in using VMware environments.

Chawaphol said VMware Thailand was expecting to grow by more than 50 per cent in 2011. It has more than 600 customers in Thailand, including 100 large enterprises and 500 SMEs and claims an 84-per-cent share of the virtualisation software market.

According to an October 2010 survey of mid-market companies by global IT-research firm Gartner, small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are adopting virtualisation at a very aggressive pace. By next year, slightly more than 75 per cent of them expect to have server virtualisation in wide use, with disaster recovery representing the largest area of IT investment for SMEs over the next two years.
